Commissioners face $24 million campus deal, $50 million bond, and two legal disputes tonight

One of the city's most consequential agendas in recent memory lands before budget season begins.

The Coral Gables City Commission meets tonight with a packed agenda that compresses several major unresolved questions into a single session. Commissioners will consider authorizing the city manager to negotiate purchase terms for 475 and 495 Biltmore Way, a two-building medical office campus adjacent to City Hall, at a reported price of $24 million. The complex is 91 percent occupied, with rental income approaching $2 million annually.

Also on the agenda: a declaration of intent to issue up to $50 million in tax-exempt bonds for the Mobility Hub, which would replace Parking Garage 1 on Andalusia Avenue. Two separate resolutions would pause the legal dispute involving the War Memorial Youth Center Association. And the first reading of a dog park ordinance at 520 University Drive arrives amid active litigation from the University Green Neighbors Association. An initial $180,000 commitment for operations of The Underline within city limits is also before commissioners.
