Ponce Circle Park redesign opens for public review June 1

The city meeting starts a monthlong comment window on the proposed downtown park plan.

The city is putting its plans for Fred B. Hartnett Ponce Circle Park, at 2810 Ponce de Leon Blvd., in front of residents. A community meeting is set for Monday, June 1, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Coral Gables Adult Activity Center, Great Room, 2 Andalusia Ave. The city page includes a Zoom registration and streaming link if you cannot make it in person.

If June 1 does not work, residents still have the month to weigh in. Proposed designs will be available for review and comment from June 1 through June 30 at GablesRecreation.com/ParksProjects. Questions can go to Community Recreation at 305-460-5620 or ParksProjects@coralgables.com.

For context on what is being reviewed, the Gables Gazette reports that commissioners advanced preliminary plans on May 19 for an $11.2 million redesign featuring an open-air Odeon, an event lawn, arcaded promenades, and a sculpture fountain anchored by Frank Stella's *Puffed & Inverted Star II*. Per the Gazette, the cost has grown roughly $2.3 million from an original $8.9 million budget, with the financial package expected at the June 9 commission meeting. Those design and cost specifics come from the Gazette's reporting rather than the city's meeting notice, so the June 1 meeting is the place to ask about them directly.

Gallery Night returns the first Friday of June

The June 5 downtown art walk runs 6 to 10 p.m., with participating galleries still TBA.

The FANS opening is part of Gables Gallery Night, running Friday, June 5, from 6 to 10 p.m. across Downtown Coral Gables. On the first Friday of each month, galleries and participating art venues open their doors for an evening of live music and fine art.

The city's listing still shows participating galleries as "to be announced," so check the city page closer to June 5 for the full lineup. The event page also links to more information about galleries in the city, but the June roster itself was not posted yet. If you are gallery-hopping, the city encourages using its trolleys or Freebee on-demand vehicles to get between stops instead of hunting for parking.

Five Iron Golf is in the works on Ponce

A permit report points to 3009 Ponce de Leon Boulevard, but no opening date has been announced.

Indoor golf and entertainment chain Five Iron Golf appears headed for Coral Gables. What Now Miami reported on April 7 that Sunshine Coral Gables LLC has applied for permits with Florida's DBPR for a location at 3009 Ponce de Leon Boulevard, and the company's website lists it as coming soon.

No opening date has been announced. Five Iron venues typically combine golf simulators with high-speed swing cameras, virtual courses, mini games, leagues, and lessons, alongside bowling lanes, a full-service bar, a chef-inspired menu, and weekday happy hour. For now, treat this as permit-stage news, not a place to book yet.
